The story

For the 1952 Winter Olympics, Oslo built a temporary bobsleigh run down from Frognerseteren. Its 13 curves were shaped from snow and frozen hard, because a permanent stone or concrete track was too costly on such steep ground. Trial runs took place in 1951 and the Olympic races in 1952, and the run was never used again. Beside it, the older Korketrekkeren luge course hosted the first luge World Championships in 1955.

  • The city spent 615,000 Norwegian kroner on construction, before the separate ice work.
  • Its curve radii ranged from 14 m to 50 m.

Today

Nothing of the snow track remains; the neighbouring Korketrekkeren road is a free public toboggan run served by the metro.
