The story

Built beside the bobsleigh track between 1961 and 1963, with Paul Aste as local site manager, this concrete luge run was the venue when luge made its Olympic debut at the 1964 Innsbruck Games. It had 18 curves, natural ice and a maximum gradient of just over 18%. Before the Games, a British luger was killed in a training run. A combined track built for the 1976 Games replaced it.

  • Luge made its Olympic debut here in 1964, with men's, women's and doubles events.
  • Its steepest section reached a gradient of 18.18%.

Today

The combined track built for the 1976 Games replaced it at Igls.
