The story

Ilmenau’s Floßberg luge run opened on 7 October 1989 and is named after Wolfram Fiedler, the 1972 Olympic bronze medallist. The 430 m track has a plastic surface for summer use. Rodelclub Ilmenau stages the FIL Sommerrodelcup here, a luge race on wheels. It is separate from the town’s older Lindenberg bob run, which still held East German luge championships in 1962.

  • It hosts the FIL Sommerrodelcup, where lugers race on wheels.
  • The track is named after the 1972 Olympic luge bronze medallist Wolfram Fiedler.
