The story

Lillehammer's track at Hunderfossen, 15 km north of the town, was completed in October 1992 for the 1994 Winter Olympics. It is the only refrigerated track in the Nordic countries. A 1991 report forecast surplus heat for the neighbouring Hunderfossen family park. It hosted the 2016 Youth Olympics and will stage the bobsleigh and skeleton World Championships in 2027.

  • A 1991 report forecast about 4.5 GWh a year of surplus heat, with the neighbouring family park as a possible user.
  • In October 2025 it was the first track to make ice for the new season.
  • Friedrich's four-man crew set the track record of 49.74 s in January 2024.
