The story

Meransen, on the Gitschberg in South Tyrol, has a short artificial ice strip next to the village tennis hall. It is built for practising luge starts rather than racing down a full course. The local club, ASV Gitschberg, stages the Gitschberg Start-Cup here every year, and the national team uses the strip for start training.

The Gitschberg Start-Cup held its 12th edition here in 2003 and its 33rd in 2026.
