The story

Cortina's bob run at Ronco opened in 1923 and was rebuilt and lengthened several times over the following decades. It was the bobsleigh venue of the 1956 Winter Olympics and hosted nine World Championships between 1937 and 1999, six European Championships and the 1953 European luge championships. The last race was held in January 2008, after which the track closed, and a bid to stage the 2011 World Championships was withdrawn.

  • It hosted the bobsleigh World Championships nine times, from 1937 to 1999.
  • For the 1956 Games the course ran for about 1,700 m through 16 curves.
  • Its replacement was built on the same hillside in about 13 months.

Today

The old track was demolished from March 2023, and the Cortina Sliding Centre for the 2026 Games was built on the same site.
