The story

The Imst luge club built this track in the Putzen woods with volunteer labour, starting in 1957. It hosted the World Luge Championships in 1963, when Fritz Nachmann won the men's title, and again in 1978, won by Paul Hildgartner. European Championships followed in 1971 and 1974. Later shortened for safety, it dropped out of international racing, and in 2024 the city declined a rebuild estimated at about 6 million euros.

  • The 1963 World Championships drew athletes from 16 nations.
  • Floodlights were added in 1959 for night racing.
  • The track was built with an average grade of 12 %.

Today

Unsafe timber was removed in 2024; the club now trains at Igls and races at Bludenz.
