The story

A natural-ice bob and luge run on the Spießberg above Friedrichroda, in the Thuringian Forest. It opened on 2 February 1910 with a 2,200 m course of seven curves. Its upper section has been out of use for about four decades, while a lower stretch of about 1,450 m has been kept for club racing.

  • Its wooden start huts, used until the 1970s when Friedrichroda was in East Germany, still stand.

Today

Wooden start huts survive in poor repair, with fallen timber lying across the curves and an information board in the valley.
