The story

The Utah Olympic Park track above Park City opened in January 1997 and received a 48 million dollar upgrade before the 2002 Winter Olympics. Those Games brought women's bobsleigh to the Olympics for the first time and returned skeleton to the programme. The track has a retractable shade system to protect the ice from the sun, and it will host the sliding events again at the 2034 Olympics.

  • Women's bobsleigh made its Olympic debut here in 2002.
  • The straight between turns 14 and 15 is nicknamed the Graveyard.
  • The men's luge track record of 44.271 s dates from 2002.

Today

A refrigerated track of 15 curves, cooled through 87 km of ammonia pipe and covered by a retractable shade.
