Hammarstrand in Jämtland has an engineered luge track with natural ice. The old wooden course opened in 1963 and hosted the luge World Championships in 1967, 1975 and 1981 before closing in 2001. A section reopened in 2021, when 304 runs were made on the opening weekend. The present course is 600 m long and has no refrigeration; modernisation has been discussed.
