Cesana Pariol was built above Cesana Torinese for the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics at a cost of about 110 million euros, and was approved for racing in October 2005. It hosted Olympic bobsleigh, luge and skeleton, the 2008 European luge championships and the 2011 luge World Championships. Running costs of more than a million euros a year proved too much, and it closed in 2011. A plan to revive it for the 2026 Games was turned down by the IOC in 2023.
- It raced for only six seasons before closing.
- About 45 to 50 tonnes of ammonia were removed in autumn 2012, and the plant was filled with nitrogen to preserve it.
- Taking the track away is expected to cost about 9 million euros.
Today
The empty channel still stands. An August 2026 permit allows its removal but retains the foundations, piles, buried conduits, retaining walls and U-shaped support beam.
